TP53I3: Human p53 inducible oxidoreductase
PDB Code: 2J8Z
TP53I3 or PIG3 is a member of the human medium-chain dehydrogenase/reductase (MDR) family, which catalyzes NAD(P)(H) dependent oxidoreductase reactions. Although its enzymological properties and substrate specificities have not been determined yet, previous studies revealed that TP53I3/PIG3 is regulated in a dose-dependent manner by the transcription factor p53 through microsatellite sequences in its promoter (1, 2). The enzyme shares homologies to bacterial quinone reductases (3,4), which together with the transcriptional regulation by p53 suggests a critical cellular role of TP53I3/PIG3 in the cellular response to oxidative stress and metabolism of xenobiotic quinones.
