HKR3: Human GLI-Kruppel family member HKR3

Krüppel-type zinc finger proteins are members of a conserved family of transcription factors that are important in developmental regulation. The human Krüppel-related protein 3 (HKR3) is ubiquitously expressed with high levels found in human fetal and adult nervous tissues. At least two transcripts have been reported. The major shorter transcript, excludes a conserved finger-associated box and a putative acidic activation domain. Further mapping studies identified HRK3 as a gene expressed in a 40 kb fragment deleted in the neuroblastoma cell line SK-N-AS. The protein is involved in regulation of the Class II Major Histocompatibility Complex Gene DPA. Here we report the structure of the N-terminal BTB domain at 1.7 Å resolution.
