DUSP16: Human dual specificity phosphatase 16

DUSP16 also known as MKP-7, Mitogen-activated protein kinase phosphatase 7 or MKP-M, mitogen-activated protein kinase phosphataseisolated from macrophages belongs to the family of dual-specificity protein phosphatases (DSPs) which catalyze dephosphorylation of protein substrates at both tyrosine and threonine residues.
DUSP16 is widely expressed and expression can be enhanced in macrophages stimulated with LPS. The precise biological function is not clear yet but it has been proposed to play a role in cellular transformation and apoptosis as well as in regulation of inflammation. DUSP16 interacts with and regulates several MAP kinases including p38, ERK and JNK MAPK. Here we present the crystal structure of the DUSP16 N-terminal CDC25 -like domain at 2.4 Å resolution.
