DUSP13: Human testis and skeletal muscle-specific dual specificity phosphatase

DUSP13 also known as testis- and skeletal-muscles specific dual-specificity phosphatase (TMDP) belongs to the family of dual-specificity protein phosphatases (DSPs) which catalyze dephosphorylation of protein substrates at both tyrosine and threonine residues.
DUSP13 has a catalytic DUSP domain as well as a MAP kinase binding domain and may therefore be involved in the modulation of MAPK signaling. DUSP13 is highly expressed during meiosis and is mainly localized in spermatocytes. The precise biological function has not been determined yet but on the basis of its expression and localization is has been suggested that DUSP13 may be involved in the regulation of meiosis and/or differentiation of testicular germ cells during spermatogenesis. Furthermore, DUSP13 has been reported to interact with some members of the TGF beta receptor subfamily.
